So, this was a commission from a friend based off of a treasured childhood memory. And it's a bit different to my usual style, mainly because one of the repeated bits of specification I was given was to make sure the kids look "cute". Which I think was my friend Candice's way of saying, "Try not to make it look sad and weird like everything else you do." Although she's far too nice to actually say that except when I'm putting words in her mouth on my blog.
I think I've mentioned this before but commissions have a great way of putting me outside my comfort zone. Under my own steam I would never draw anything that involves a bed flying through space, three dogs, a fat albino rabbit and two kids firing ray guns. Because I'm far too lazy to put those things into an illustration. The endless parade of faces around these parts is evidence to support that.
Anyway, there it is above and a photo of the finished print below. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. But that's not to say there won't be more sad and weird next week.
