The Conversation Poster

So, in between making Godfather films Francis Ford Coppola made The Conversation. I don't know if it's underrated (because it's rated pretty highly among people who have seen it) but it's probably underseen.

It's a film about a surveillance expert (played by Gene Hackman) who spends the movie gradually picking apart the snippets of a brief conversation (it's a very clever title) and discovering hidden layers of intrigue while becoming increasingly paranoid and playing the saxophone.

If you need any other reason to seek it out, the film was one of the incredible run of five movies starring John Cazale that came out in the six year period between 1972 and 1978 and were all nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award (but he's a subject for another time) and it's also got a young Harrison Ford.
