Imperator Furiosa Illustration - Mad Max: Fury Road

What a lovely day
So I went to see Mad Max: Fury Road a fortnight ago and I still can't believe it ever got made. It makes no sense that the 70 year old director of a trilogy of low budget Australian post-apocalyptic exploitation movies would be allowed to make a sequel thirty years later with a 150 million dollar budget after making only three films in the last twenty-three years. It makes even less sense when you consider that those three films are - Babe: Pig in the City and two Happy Feet movies. And that Eve Ensler (author of The Vagina Monologues) worked as a consultant on the new movie. And that it's basically a two hour long car chase shot with 80% practical effects in the Namibian desert.

It gets plain unbelievable when it turns out that the result is one of the greatest action movies ever made.

If my drawing of Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa seems different to my usual style it's because I really tried to capture some of the fun and dynamism of the film. And also because I made the whole thing in one unbroken marathon session from conception to completion and I was drunk the entire time.

  1. Nice read, I just passed this onto a friend who was doing some research on that. And he actually bought me lunch since I found it for him smile Therefore let me rephrase that: Thanks for lunch! 123movies

  2. The earliest movies were simply one static shot that showed an event or action with no editing or other cinematic techniques. Around the turn of the 20th century, movies started stringing several scenes together to tell a story. 123 movies
