I am now selling custom prints of this poster on my Etsy store. You can check the listing here:

So This week I made a poster for the movie Kingsman: The Secret Service because it's the new film from Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman (and they made Kickass and X-Men: First Class)  and also, from the looks of this trailer, it seems as though it's concerned with nothing other than being as entertaining as it can possibly be.

Plus, I thought it'd be a fun movie to make a poster for because I could incorporate a bunch of different stuff into the design.

I was thinking about Saul Bass' classic movie posters and their cool use of geometric shapes when I started:

Fig. 1: A selection of Saul Bass movie posters

And I thought about classic James Bond movie posters:

Fig. 2: Possibly the greatest movie poster of all time

And I threw them both together while mixing up some cool sixties trippiness, rough sketchy pencils, modern digital colouring and Michael Caine.

Honestly, I'm not sure if what I ended up with isn't a bit of a mess, but there it is anyway.

Annoyingly, just as I was putting the finishing touches on this, I discovered a Kingsman movie poster competition that had ended just over a week earlier. Less annoyingly, some of them are absolutely brilliant so I spared myself the shame of failure. You can have a look at some of the submissions here:

  1. Really great work on this! I was looking for a poster to put up on my theater's facebook page and would have loved to use this, but didn't want to do so without your permission, so I went with the official one. I would totally own a print of this though, haha. It suits the movie well. And you're right about it, by the way. It's soul purpose does seem to be as entertaining as possible and it pulls it off well. Once again, excellent work. I love that style.

    1. Hi Dani - thanks very much! I've been looking at doing something in this style for a while, Kingsman seemed the perfect opportunity.

Thanks for holding off on the posting without permission, most people don't even consider it. But I'm generally fine with it if people ask because I'm an egomaniac.

Sorry about the shameless plug, but I'm selling prints of a (very slightly modified) version of this on my Etsy shop. You can have a look at the listing here:

  2. Food for thought there Lerry.
